eXplore A/V: Semester 1

During the first semester of my sophomore video production class i learned a lot about composing shots and editing that i wasn't taught last year. Our first project was a basic procedure video. we had to come up with a story and the shots that would make it all fit together. Our second project was an al audio interview just like on the radio. I didn't like this one very much because i like to create things people will watch, there needs to be pictures. Our third project was we had to go out and film a hobby that our partner did. I liked the idea of this one but we only had a week to do it and the time complications were so bad that none of us had a good story. The final project of semester one was where we all had to make a news show like the one our schools upperclassman do.

There was a kid in the class named Jared Coker and everyone was fascinated by him and his ability to catch snakes. Our whole class loved the kid for his quirkiness. About two weeks before the final week our eXplore A/V teacher, Mr. Allam was no longer our teacher and the Video Entertainment teacher came in and took his place. I really like Mrs. Morris and the way she teaches.

Some of the things we learned really helped us out while some didn't.  Mr. Allam taught us how to operate the camera and  how to have proper lighting.  The way he taught us how to edit was strict and not how I like to edit. He had us mark up all the videos first. The way i like and was taught to was to just use the blade tool and let my mind flow and just work form there.

The main thing we learned was how to do a broadcast in the studio wit hall the equipment professionals use. We also learned proper lighting, how to use Final Cut Pro and type a blogger post. We learned that if one person didn't hold up there end on a group project that the whole thing would flop.

Next semester, i want to work harder with different people, i want to improve in collaboration, communication, time management, and leadership. I know i want to do this in my future and hopefully for a career. I look forward for a good second semester.

The scope of the project is that we had to go to the Olathe Northwest High School Blood Drive.  We filmed, then we edited, then we posted. It was fun. We used Apple Macs and Final Cut Pro X, I worked with Cooper Cate and the rest of the a/v class to pile up all the film and choose the best clips/interviews to use

Blood Drive

A man and his daughter go get blood drawn from the red cross. They both get blood drawn and tell about there experience on a Go-Pro. They were in focus but that about the only good thing they did, It was shaky and the audio was terrible and was repetitive and just kept going. There wasn't a hook or anything that made people want to watch it. I think if i went out and got the exact footage he got,i wouldn't want anyone else to see it or try and edit it to make it look good.

Professional Article Review

On October 1st 2015 there was a shooting in at an Oregon college and like usual, social media went crazy. The author says that the news stations around the US were just nabbing at the students at the school. The reporters wouldn't stop until they got the information they needed for a good story.

The author covered both sides of the argument very well by saying how the reporters were wrong to hound the kids right after this event but also said that how reporters get accurate news first. The evidence is very convincing and he is a very good author for this article.

                                                           Vultures or Reporters?

rgba Tutorial

The final project should look something like this.
but you can have any photo you want there but you will still have to change the rgba color.

Make a new div and the code should look like this.
Make a few new css rules to get the picture in there and change the opacity of the container.
the rgba is the colors red, green, blue, and the opacity of the text. The a goes from 0-1 so in the fourth css tag it had a opacity of 0.8 and thats mostly opaque.

Don't forget to finally close it off.

Professional Project Review

In the video, Shawn Montano interviews a high school girl named Michaela Gertner, a power lifter. This looks like a well done interview for what looks like a news network. (CNN Montano)

Everything was framed very well  and he took multiple shots from several different lifts and made it look like 1 big lift. The story was a young teenage girl does more than a normal teenage girl, the story was told very well. I would apply the fact that he use multiple shots to make it look like one big shot. He used a lot of the six shot system and this was one of the first things i learned when starting in video a year ago.

The creator told the story very well and had his shots on point. He could improve by putting the one third rule into play and maybe getting close ups closer and have them not look so much like a medium shot. This was a well done piece of work and my props go to this fella.

The WayBack Machine

Are task was to find 3 websites on the WayBack machine and compare the older versions to the newer looking websites and also compare the coding of the websites because this is a web class after all.

YouTube

The first layout of youtube in 2005 was a way different format than the one today.

The source code of youtube 05' was a different form of HTML coding.

YouTube Now

Youtube looks official after being bought by google, the site has an easier way to watch videos and enjoy them.
The code is a lot more beefier than the older one, which means that there is a lot more information within the site.

Yahoo

Old yahoo looked good for its time, i think? its much more colorful and more 80's like

There was a lot of links on that one page with barely anything on it

Yahoo Now

Now that yahoo has grown so has the website, with more news than a search engine.

The code looks more complex but it really isn't

Twitter
Twitter looks like its time period, looks like an 8 year old tried to make a website.

The code looks good though only having a little on the page.

Twitter Now

As the #1 social media site, its gotta look professional, and it does that very well. It has the right age group of teens and young adults to drag in with a good looking website.

The code has a lot of links for the different profiles on the main page.

The Purpose of this is to have an archive of internet websites and they way they looked.

The internet archive (https://archive.org/index.php) also holds archives for text, video, audio, software, and video files from years ago.

I like that you can find much more than just how websites looked long ago.

Final Post

For are final in e9, we had to create a product and sell it to investors just like in the show Shark Tank. So we had to go back through the three strands, video, graphic/web, and animation. This was probably one of the best e9 projects we did and i got to use so many different programs! I was a ESTJ in the myers briggs test. That is the group leader but apparently that didn't happen in this group.

In the video strand, i was staring in the commercial with Carson Dominguez. The video was to show how fast and easy it was to use our product, just by taking a picture! We used Final Cut Pro to edit the video. We used the six shot system as much as we could. I think we could've talked to actually explain what going on.

In the animation part of the project, i did the packaging design or in this case the phone and the app. For this we used SketchUp and after the graphic design strand one of my partners put the finished logo and the 3D text made by someone else.

The only problem we ran into was in the design/web strand. My job was to make the website because no one else wanted to do it, and i barely knew how to do anything on it without instructions so we all thought it wasn't going to be done because no one knew how to do it. But someone in our group finally said they knew how and took the duty of it. I felt bad putting all that weight on her but i give all the credit to the website to her.

PhotoStudy Commercial

PhotoStudy is a "new" app that allows students to complete homework with the snap of a picture! You can even share other work with students through the app as-well. In the commercial I am having a hard time with it and see Carson outside playing and i wanna play out there as well. So i find an app that completes my homework. It works and let me go play outside.

Final Interview

During the 3rd quarter I was in the video strand of e –comm. I was looking forward to this a lot because other experience with the e-comm teachers hasn’t been good. Even though we didn’t agree I still leaned a lot. I had already ben using the 6 shot system the summer before freshman, I took part in the journalism camp.  I learned how to correctly frame the shots this year and how to use a mac software to edit, (PC is still better.) I hope to continue in e-comm and the video strand in general and  also be doing the web strand as well. The class I had was okay and I made some friends and how to be a group and work together and still have it been fun. I hope that in my future I can use what I leaned and make videos freely without any rules, almost like the chase project.

AB Sequence

This time, we learned how to do a AB Sequence, or a series of shots to make an A scene and a B scene. We also had a third member in our group, which the other groups didn’t. I learned how to communicate and cooperate with someone I wasn’t used to. Our next project will most likely be “The Chase”. My team and I, will use the six shot system and what we learned in this project and that is the AB sequencing. Collaboration is the action of working with someone to produce or create something. We used collaboration a lot in this project mostly because we had three people in our group, which was uncommon. We had to make three different videos too.

6 Shot System

The six shot system is the basic shots you’ll use when making a short film or movie. The six shots consist of, Extra Close Up, Close Up, Medium Shot, Over The Shoulder, Wide Shot, Extra Wide Shot.

I learned how to use a camcorder camera, this summer I came to ONW to do a journalism program where we learned the six shot system and got to use the cameras the upper classmen use.

For our next project, I will use these “six shots” to my advantage when making the “chase” scene. At least I think that’s the next project..

Highlight Video

I made a highlight video about baseball; I have already used this program before so it was easy to edit this. I used the blade tool to cut the specific clips I wanted in to the masterpiece I’ve created. I play baseball and I’m a second baseman, so that’s why I made a video about it. It’s a fun sport and is very popular. Hopefully I make the freshman team this year. I also included some sound clips from a prank call and a clip of a distorted old man, just some touch ups for my masterpiece. The sound clips were from “Eddie Murphy calls Taco Bell”
And the old man, was from “Noice”.  For the baseball clips I used just some MLB Top Plays and Barry Bonds’ Farthest Baseball Hit. I used the infamous song titled “Turn Down For What” It was a fun project and im excited to do more in the video strand.
